Syndrome: Pyelonephritis, uncomplicated
Primary Therapy(s):
- Ciprofloxacin x 5-7 days
Alternate Therapy(s):
- TMP/sulfa x14d
- Augmentin x 14d
- Ceftriaxone (IV)
Comments:
- This applies to patients without complicating urologic problems.
- P.O. beta-lactams not as effective as FQ's.
- There now exists 10-20% FQ and TMP/SMX resistance in E. Coli. An empiricial dose of cefriaxone or gentamicin might be considered pending culture results.
